What Pain Does To My Brain

Over the weekend, I threw out my back. The recovery process has been slow going, so here I am, sitting in bed with a heating pad, going over old pictures, wallowing in how this week has not gone as planned.

My thoughts are aimless for the most part, but for some reason, I keep coming back to a post I read last night by my blog friend Kirsten of Comfortably Domestic. In it, she references a previous post Randoms and a Quickie. The title made me laugh the first time I read it, and last night I was reflecting on how every time I start crafting a post with scattered points, I think of her title again.

Now, as I peruse pictures, I’m thinking a random post might in fact be a good idea for today. This way, whatever the pain meds are doing to my head will at least seem intentional.

So, here we go, folks. Here’s my closet clutter.

This is a place I like on our island. My daughter calls it Snow White’s woods. We have yet to find the dwarfs, their cottage, Snow White, or even the evil stepmother, but we remain steadfast in our assertion.

Check out some of these sandcastles.

The castle the small people tried to hold back the ocean with, with predictable results.

Check out my garbage cans. I like it when my trash congregates in coastal-themed receptacles. Don’t worry; I don’t normally keep them on my deck. This picture was taken after I hosed them all out earlier this year. On the other hand, you may want to worry a little, because for the life of me, I can’t figure out why I took a picture of my garbage cans.

This is the time my daughter decided to play hide-and-seek, without telling anyone first. She hid, and who knows how long later, this is how I found her, sitting in the shower lost in thought.

I paint my toenails weird colors. And use my flash indiscriminately.

So there you have it, what pain does to my brain, a.k.a. Randoms without the Quickie.

  1. Oh, you poor thing! Throwing your back out rots. I’m sorry to hear that you are laid up in bed. However, the selfish part of me thinks that it’s cool that you are getting the rest that you need to recuperate. Reading other people’s random posts are some of my very favorites because it really gives a sneak peek into how the mind works. You & I must think similarly because I always paint my toes weird colors–usually with polish picked out by Son #3. More disturbingly is the fact that I often find weird pictures that I can’t for the life of me remember why I took them. I just chalk it up to the likelihood that I was, at that particular moment, mentally crafting a blog post that I have since forgotten about.

I hope you back feels better soon!

    1. Thanks. I think I am now back in business. Although, since LCB was out of town for the bulk of it, it wasn’t as restful as it might otherwise have been. Yes, I think I could random post at least 4 days a week, and I really do think about your title when my brain starts drifting in that direction. I don’t know what it is about weird nail polish colors, because I’m much more conservative in the rest of my appearance. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s a minor fashion commitment that’s appealing. I’m also glad I’m not the only one with weird inexplicable pictures. Maybe it’s side effects of the gig.

  2. Random thoughts seems to be the theme for today. My thoughts have been scattered as well. However, I can’t blame it on pain. I do hope your back heals quickly.
I love the picture of “Snow White’s woods.” I would love to see it in person. Maybe someday, I’ll wonder across it.
Take care and get well soon.

    1. Thanks. I’m doing much better now. I’m also glad I’m not the only one with random thoughts. Some days, it seems like my attention span maxes out at about 5 seconds, and I start to wonder (for about 5 seconds) if there’s something wrong with me. Yes, we love the path through Snow White’s woods. There’s just something so inviting about it.

  3. Random is good. Feel better soon!

    1. I sure hope so, because I feel like I’ve mastered the art of it. And thanks, I’m doing much better.

  4. I could have sworn that I posted a comment yesterday.

So I will repeat what I thought I said – Feel better soon. And randomness is just fine!

    1. Sorry, I’m a little behind after our trip to Disney World, which included two full days of no internet despite the fact that our hotel room supposedly did have internet. Then, after switching to another building in the hotel, between LCB getting caught up with his stuff and a day at Magic Kingdom that ended at 1:30 the next morning, I got way behind with everything. And, thanks for the support!
