Woo-hoo! I’m almost two! An Island Mom has a birthday next week!
After hours of contemplation, I’ve decided that I’m going to celebrate by consuming chocolate. And since for most people a celebration involves doing something they don’t normally do anyway, I’ve decided to add “not looking at one single student essay the entire day” to my list of celebratory actions.
It’s going to be the best day ever, y’all.
Oh, and there’s one other thing.
In honor of this milestone, I want to give away something fun, something bright, something that makes you want to pack up everything and move to an island. ‘Cause you all know that’s precisely what this Chicago girl did, once upon a time, which is why An Island Mom came into being.
This, by the way, was a rather fortuitous move from An Island Mom’s standpoint as well. Otherwise, my blog would have been named who knows what and would have included all kinds of shots of my backyard in suburban Chicago, a backdrop complete with chain-link fence, mismatched landscaping, and the Tyvek HomeWrap of the neighbor behind us who decided to re-side his house and never quite got around to the finishing part. And there were no dolphins; the only water creatures we saw were a few goldfish that swam in our fish pond perpetually overridden with algae.
Ah, good times, those were. But they weren’t as picturesque.
Shockingly, I digress. I apologize.
So, I searched for something with an island feel to it to give to one of you. Fortunately, in coastal Carolina, there’s no shortage of fun to be had in shops all up and down the coast, so this part was a breeze.

I can’t wait to hear from all y’all! And (for all you Hunger Games devotees out there), may the odds be ever in your favor.
