A Word Of Thanks This Fourth Of July

I just wanted to say a word of thanks, feeble though it may be in light of who it is offered to and what it is offered for, to all the women and men of the U.S. Military who are overseas right now serving our country.

I know several military families, and I’m continually in awe of the sacrifice they make for us, for me, so I can live on an island and celebrate our country’s independence today and blog about whatever fancies me at the moment.

It is a staggering sacrifice.

I know a woman whose husband did multiple tours overseas while she was pregnant and had three children, children who have thus lived months to years of their young lives without their father at home.

I know a woman who left to serve overseas shortly after her husband left to serve overseas, in a different country, knowing they’d be separated for the better part of a year.

I know a woman who waited with a patience I can only dream of having some day, in hopes of her baby being born before her husband was deployed. Her husband was deployed, days before her baby was born, and she brought her son into the world without him. And now he serves, halfway across the world, waiting for the day he can come home and meet his son for the first time.

I can only imagine.

And be gratefully forever in their debt.

A special shout out to our friends Joe and Kasey, both currently serving overseas. You and your families are in our thoughts and prayers. Oh, and we’ve got chairs sitting out on the beach with your names on them.
