Christmas Beach-Themed Ornaments for 2012

100_6632Last year, I wrote about beach-themed ornaments from the Carolinas. This year, I’ve expanded my search beyond the Carolinas, although some ornaments I’ll share are in fact from my part of the world. In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that my tastes aren’t especially sophisticated these days. I currently live with three small people (and of course there’s LCB), so all sophistication in my world ceased to exist years ago. These days, Santa in a neon swimsuit sitting on a pink flamingo is right up my alley.

100_6136I mentioned that my mom, my sister and I visited St. Simons Island last September and that my mom bought a few ornaments for me at some of the local gift shops. I love collecting ornaments with the names of places I’ve been, so I like the glass ball with the sand and the surf board, and the small people are always game for more sea creatures on their tree.

Charleston ornamentI’ve never met an ornament featuring Charleston that I didn’t like, and this one is certainly no exception. Check out some of the other ornaments on charlestongiftsonline; they have several variations.

Another cute ornament with a place name on it is this sand dollar and starfish ornament from Hilton Head Island. This would be a great craft idea too, particularly if you are fortunate enough to collect nonliving sand dollars and starfish from various beaches. I’d love to have a dozen of these, all from different beaches I’ve visited up and down the Carolinas.

I love this glass starfish. I imagine it would be beautiful at night with the tree lights shining behind it.

Christmas Mouse always has many brightly-colored beach-themed ornaments to choose from, and they have several locations throughout Virginia and the Carolinas if you prefer purchasing them on your next vacation rather than online.

I love these sand dollars, and in particular, the fact that Caron’s Beach House promises that no two are exactly alike

I know glass floats are a dime a dozen, but I just thought it bears mentioning that I found this at T.J. Maxx last week. Plus, I love that, like the sea glass ornaments, these can be used for beach-house décor any time of the year.

Finally, I know a five-year-old who, from time to time, scours the beach for shells, and comes home to make these.

You’ll never see them at Saks or Neiman Marcus, but ornaments don’t get much better than this.

  1. Yay! Christmas ornaments! I am so glad you posted more this year. I was looking forward to seeing what you added to your collection. I love the glass starfish and the which-way signs. But the one from your five-year-old is the very best one. Merry Christmas to y’all!
