  • Girl Meets West #7: A Look Back at What I Hadn’t Seen Before

    Posted on November 2, 2015November 3, 2015

If you are just starting this tale, you may want to start with #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6 first. We drove into Grand Canyon National Park around dinner time. The kids were naturally excited, having heard so much about it in years past. Why, yes, we did hit a sprinkling of June snow […]

  • Girl Meets West # 6: Quail Ridge and the Drop Off

    Posted on September 30, 2015

If you’re new to this tale, you may want to read #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5 first. For our last night, we booked a campsite at Quail Ridge RV Park, located just north of Phoenix. Originally, we had planned to stop at the Grand Canyon on the way to Phoenix, but due to various […]

  • Girl Meets West #5: And So She Melted

    Posted on August 25, 2015

If you are new to this tale, you may want to read Girl Meets West #1, #2, #3, and #4 first. Some places are marked by such distinct topography that it’s hard to lose your sense of place while there; I was reminded of this so many times throughout the trip, including during our drive […]

  • Girl Meets West #4: Our Brush with the Law

    Posted on August 15, 2015August 15, 2015

If you’re new to Girl Meets West, you may want to read part #1, part #2, and part #3 first. Barring the brush with dehydration, the Lake Powell campsite suited me. It was open and sunny and well-kept, but more importantly, it had full hook-ups. Basically, for the non-campers out there, this means being able […]

  • Girl Meets West #3: Not How I Pictured This Day

    Posted on July 31, 2015August 1, 2015

If you missed the beginning of this series, you may want to go back to Part 1 and Part 2 first to read the first two posts of Girl Meets West. On the way up to Lake Powell, where we’d be spending the first two nights, the formerly small people sat at the table and […]

If you missed my last post, you may want to click here to read part one of our Southwest trip. We arrived in Phoenix late that night, checked into a hotel near the airport, and crashed. We awoke the next morning and looked out the window; while the palm trees felt like home, the mountains […]

    ABOUT ME

Hey! I’m Christine. Well over a decade ago, my family traded in our lives in Chicago for life on a small island in the Carolinas, and thus began our journey. When I’m not writing, I listen to my loquacious husband talk and I experiment with both helicopter and free-range parenting my three children. (It’s exactly what it sounds like.) I write about all things coastal, but also about subjects like parenting, education, and worldview. Welcome to An Island Mom! I’m thrilled that you are here!
