In fact, last Friday, baby-girl had to peel me off the floor in front of the Christmas books when she deemed it necessary for me to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153stop looking for Christmas books and start helping me find more princess books.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, the last library visit inspired me to compile a list of my favorites. Buck, author\u00c2\u00a0 &amp; Mark Buehner, illustrator<\/p>\n<p>Pearl Buck\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s classic tale of love between a father and son is beautifully illustrated, with exquisite pictures of nighttime on a farm. Also noteworthy is a message from the illustrator describing the impact the story had on some of his children one Christmas years ago.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/?attachment_id=858\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-858\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-858\" title=\"100_3397\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3397-946x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"692\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3397-946x1024.jpg 946w, http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3397-277x300.jpg 277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/aws\/cart\/add.html\/ref=as_li_tf_til?SessionId=185-0814879-7962357&amp;SubscriptionId=D68HUNXKLHS4J&amp;AssociateTag=wwwanislandmo-20&amp;ASIN.1=0060278676&amp;Quantity.1=1&amp;adid=0558CVW4V0QQZG6MEH5G&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;OfferListingId.1=%252FFHwQ0H4pnEWen2iXhwTBD5j0riPmS3dlCb73jba5Tv72aBGNvb0bCHOFfwypzR%252BThFMAy1W%252FaVEnDlK6uihffuX%252FLcBuKtwxpRI5rW%252FKYo%253D&amp;submit.add.x=58&amp;submit.add.y=8\" target=\"_blank\">If You Take a Mouse to the Movies<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Laura Numeroff, author &amp; Felicia Bond, illustrator<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not even sure I get this one. But far be it from me to argue with science. And the science (involving close observations of three small people whose identities shall go unmentioned) tells me that kids love this book. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just goofy in a pointless and yet circular sort of way that makes kids laugh when they read it. Plus, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also available in paperback, so if you are like me and like kids to have free reign of most of their books (My theory: If you treat books more like toys and less like Grandmother\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s expensive china, in most cases, they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be used with the corresponding frequency), you can still sleep at night knowing this one might be wedged between a Power Ranger and a Strawberry Shortcake picnic table at the bottom of a toy box somewhere.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/?attachment_id=857\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-857\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-857\" title=\"100_3395\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3395-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3395-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3395-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/aws\/cart\/add.html\/ref=as_li_tf_til?SessionId=182-4561119-2194209&amp;SubscriptionId=D68HUNXKLHS4J&amp;AssociateTag=wwwanislandmo-20&amp;ASIN.1=1423131428&amp;Quantity.1=1&amp;adid=1G8X76TX82CBWK508CYJ&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;OfferListingId.1=bgl1vp%252BsL5UUwx3PuvMMkaRLJhHsA%252F4X%252F6cgTvKKXrg5ncBeq9DxApqJIoqmvwomj4iSyQZzyHIGkrLIsmzSKErYOkxpZ7GNk3nL1nncCbwtcs6Y1ulP8g%253D%253D&amp;submit.add.x=26&amp;submit.add.y=1\" target=\"_blank\">A Royal Christmas<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lisa Ann Marsoli, author &amp; The Disney Storybook Artists, illustrators<\/p>\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve included this princess book for those of you who are going through \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Princess Years\u00e2\u20ac\u009d with your small children. I bought this for my daughter last December, and her eyes stayed wide for a full minute after receiving it. It includes four stories, each one about one of the Disney Princesses, that all center around Christmas traditions where the princesses act decidedly down-to-earth, sharing small traditions and humble treats with the ones they love.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/?attachment_id=859\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-859\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-859\" title=\"100_3389\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3389-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3389-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3389-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/aws\/cart\/add.html\/ref=as_li_tf_til?SessionId=177-5182199-8515533&amp;SubscriptionId=D68HUNXKLHS4J&amp;AssociateTag=wwwanislandmo-20&amp;ASIN.1=0385327218&amp;Quantity.1=1&amp;adid=03J55MDMCXVDS0VD0766&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;OfferListingId.1=dKw4R92xWf6g61ku4jC%252B6BbPkccH8ljW7DU4cdmMybho2B4cbHXNnZKbu6c1ELKAw1QEbHD2dxdRKnXesM%252FoF%252Bx8FnO84dZ20M0WvOcN2g0%253D&amp;submit.add.x=63&amp;submit.add.y=11\" target=\"_blank\">Mr. Willowby\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Christmas Tree<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Robert Barry, author and illustrator<\/p>\n<p>A tree that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s magnificent but too large to fit in Mr. Willowby\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s house ultimately becomes the Christmas tree for several other homes as well. In the end of this light-hearted tale, the tree comes full circle in its journey.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/?attachment_id=855\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-855\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-855\" title=\"100_3385\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3385-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3385-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3385-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/offer-listing\/0064436705\/ref=as_li_tf_til?tag=wwwanislandmo-20&amp;camp=0&amp;creative=0&amp;linkCode=am1&amp;creativeASIN=0064436705&amp;adid=1TKAYTT58MKFS9NZGBZH&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">On Christmas Eve<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Margaret Wise Brown, author &amp; Nancy Edwards Calder, illustrator<\/p>\n<p>If you fancy yourself a good oral reader, much of this story, I believe, is in the reading aloud of it. It is a tale of three sleepless siblings who sneak downstairs on Christmas Eve, intending merely to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153touch the tree and make a wish before we go to sleep,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d but finding more than they expected when they do. My kids like discussing how the liberties taken with the movie affect the theme and the storyline, not a bad starting activity for the types of literary analysis they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll do in school as they get older.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/?attachment_id=853\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-853\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-853\" title=\"100_3392\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3392-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3392-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/100_3392-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/offer-listing\/0891914919\/ref=as_li_tf_til?tag=wwwanislandmo-20&amp;camp=0&amp;creative=0&amp;linkCode=am1&amp;creativeASIN=0891914919&amp;adid=04X1SHRM1878SJ4Z6HZA&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">The Christmas Stories of George MacDonald<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>George MacDonald, author &amp; Linda Hill Griffith, illustrator<\/p>\n<p>This one is a personal favorite, one my dad read to us every year at Christmas time. It includes three stories and four poems. One story tells the tale of a man born on Christmas day who finds his purpose in life the day he stumbles on a little orphan girl sweeping the city streets. Another story tells of a family whose love for one another is reborn amid the tragic death of their baby boy. Unfortunately, this book is out of print, although there are still copies floating around out there if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re committed. While it is the three stories that I love most about the book, the illustrations are absolutely beautiful as well.<\/p>\n<p>What about you?
