My eldest recently told me, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Mom, I seriously doubt starving people would want your casserole.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He was so totally right, incidentally, but still.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-204\" href=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/?attachment_id=204\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-204\" title=\"100_0797\" src=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/100_0797-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/100_0797-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.anislandmom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/100_0797-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>Instead of choosing the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">veracious<\/span> route, like my eldest, my youngest chose to flee the scene of the crime (yes, the casserole recipe, obtained from an otherwise credible source, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll have you know, was so bad that it should indeed be outlawed), before she could possibly be cajoled into eating more than her obligatory\u00c2\u00a0three bites.<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Verity<\/strong> (n) (-ity = quality, condition): quality of being truthful<\/p>\n<p>The other day, my middle child said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Mom, I just don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re really cool enough to do surfing like Dad.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Irritatingly, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">verity<\/span> of that statement won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be questioned by anyone, ever.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>Verisimilitude<\/strong> (n) (simil = likeness, pretense): having the appearance of truth, often used to describe realism in art, literature, etc.<\/p>\n<p>I have difficulty watching most movies about teachers because, in my humble opinion as a former teacher, they tend to be lacking in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">verisimilitude<\/span>. That being said, I still have fantasies about someday pulling an ex-military martial arts move like Michelle Pfeiffer in <em>Dangerous Minds<\/em>, or recreating any number of Robin Williams\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 moments in <em>Dead Poets Society<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Latin root #4: VER Meaning: truth Words: 1.
